Every year the most acrobatic of all whales, the Humpback Whale, visits Bahía Banderas to breed and give birth. When this magnificent protected species visits us, it gives us one of the most majestic spectacles of nature.
In late autumn, some whales seek the shelter and protection of the warm waters of our bay to give birth or reproduce before returning to their feeding grounds in the north. Their total migration route extends to about 5,000 km (3,000 mi). This makes it one of the longest journeys of any mammal on the planet!
Humpback whale behavior is usually playful, you will see them shoot large jets of water into the air and wave their tails on the sea’s surface. And when the calves are learning to swim, it is common to see them jump out of the water with their mothers. Undoubtedly, one of the best experiences that the sea offers in this region is simply unforgettable.
*Plan your visit, the whale watching season in Bahia de Banderas begins in mid to late October and runs through the end of March.
If you rent a yacht during the whale watching season, we will make sure that the boat has the official permit from the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT), in addition to meeting the requirements of the Official Mexican Standard 131-Semarnat so that you can enjoy the experience to the fullest respecting this wonderful protected species.
